I need someone to help me who is really really good at algebra!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are any of ya'll really good at algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you post the problem, most of us can probably help...

TASK 1 MEDICAL X RAYS, with a wavlength about \[10^{-10}m\] , can penetrate completeyly through your skin. Ultravilet rays which cause sunburns, by penetrating only the top layer of skin , have a wavelength about 1000 times the wavelength of a x ray. Find the wavelength of ultraviolet waves. Show your work. The wavelengths of visiable light are between \[3.8 x 10^{-7}m\] and \[7.6 x 10^{-7}m\] Are these wavelengths longer or shorter than those of ultraviloet waves? Explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do ya'll know this?:/

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Yes. It's pretty straightforward arithmetic. Wavelength of medical x-ray is \(10^{-10} \text m\)Ultraviolet light has a wavelength that is about 1000 times that of a medical x-ray, so the wavelength of the UV light is just \[1000*(10^{-10} \text m) = 10^3*10^{-10}\text m = 10^{3-10}\text m = 10^{-7}\text m\] Easy, wasn't it? Do you remember the multiplication properties of exponents with a common base? \[a^n*a^m = a^{n+m}\]
