2x + 9 = 25 I am to solve and check - answer I got was 16 + 9 = 25 - Book says answer is 8 ??

because you have a variable so you have to find the answer to x, to do that you must get x by itself

you have to move 9 on the other side of the equals sign, you must do the opposite of what the sign says if you are working on the other side of the equals sign
