I need help with the last 2 rows... (8/3 and 4/3 rows)

@dumbcow

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The point of intersection (8/3, y) occurs when you solve the system 60x+30y = 240 28x-28y = 0 for x and y So all you need to do is pick either equation and plug in x = 8/3. Then solve for y

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the constraints should be \[y \le -2x+8\] \[y \le -\frac{1}{2}x+6\] \[y \ge x\] the point (4/3 , y) occurs when the first 2 constraints intersect plug in x=4/3 to get y point (8/3, y) occurs when 1st and 3rd constraint intersect plug in x=8/3 to get y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plugging (8/3) into 60x+30y = 240 gives me the same answer as just dividing 8 by 3... 2.7

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

60x+30y = 240 60(8/3)+30y = 240 480/3+30y = 240 160+30y = 240 30y = 240-160 30y = 80 y = 80/30 y = 8/3 So when x = 8/3, y is y = 8/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i put 2.6 and 2.7 as my answer earlier but it was "wrong" ...i guess i needa put my answer in as a fraction

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah it looks like they want either fractions or integers

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

its because of rounding ... 8/3 = 2.666666666...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

need help with the next one too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 5.3 and 77 (rounded)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i needa have the 5.3 in fraction form too

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah keep everything as fractions when you convert from fraction to decimals, you lose information about the number as dumbcow is saying, 8/3 = 2.6666... but you said 8/6 = 2.6 but 2.6 = 26/10 = 13/5 which is clearly not the same fraction similar errors occur with 2.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would i put in 53/10 or no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that gives me 5.3 but i rounded to 5.3... the answer was actually 5.3333333

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

5.3 is not 53/10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

5.3333333... = 5 + 0.3333333... = 5 + 1/3 = 15/3 + 1/3 = 16/3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 5.3333333... = 16/3

THANKS GUYS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you guys also help me here? i have the answers filled in and they are correct but i was wondering a few things. http://openstudy.com/users/mariomintchev#/updates/511d7890e4b03d9dd0c4567b
