A box contains 14 balls numbered 1 through 14. Two balls are drawn in succession without replacement. If the second ball has the number 4 on it, what is the probability that the first ball had a smaller number on it? An even number on it?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The probability that the first ball drawn had a 1 or 2 or 3 on it is 3/14. The probability that the first ball drawn had an even number on it is 7/14 or 1/2.
