Determine algebraically whether the function is even, odd, or neither even nor odd. f(x) = -3x4 - 2x - 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If a function is even then \[f(-x)=f(x)\] and if it is odd then we get \[f(-x) = -f(x)\] So all you need to do is plug in negative x and see what results. If all the signs are flipped then we get that is odd. If none are then it is even. If there are some then we say it is neither or that it has no symmetry.

OpenStudy (strawberry17):

I got neither, am I correct?

OpenStudy (strawberry17):

Because the middle term was switched but the other two stayed the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

OpenStudy (strawberry17):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do want to not that you only care about the signs on the X values

OpenStudy (strawberry17):

what do you mean only the signs on the x values
