The triangles have to be congruent by SSS. I don't get this straw and string business. Maybe somebody else does.

The straw and string activity is to give you an idea if the triangles are the same shape or not

if you do it right, the two should be the same shape and both should be rigid

btw if you learn best by making objects and doing things with your hands (like building wood sculptures), then this activity is a great way to learn about SSS congruence
