How did the Abbasid dynasty of the Islamic Golden Age differ from the earlier Umayyad dynasty? The Abbasids moved the capital to Baghdad. The Abbasids were supported by the Sunnis. The Abbasid dynasty retreated to Spain. The Umayyads were stricter in observing the laws of Islam.
