Finding inverses of matrices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I know what to do, but I'm lost on how to find the determinant.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

do you have a 2x2 matrix ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (turingtest):

\[\det\left[\begin{matrix}a&b\\c&d\end{matrix}\right]=\left|\begin{matrix}a&b\\c&d\end{matrix}\right|=ad-cb\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My matrix is, [ 0 -6] [-2 -5] So your saying that I would subtract the 0 & -6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah wait wait, I looked at that formula way wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I multiply 0 * -5, then multiply -2 * -6 then subract?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If so then I got 12 from that
