Used the Plot function in the Mathematica v8 Home Edition computer program.
The following was the exact expression fed to Mathematica.
\[\text{Plot}\left[x^2+\frac{1}{x},\{x,-3,3\},\text{PlotRange}\to \{-20,20\}\right] \]The option, PlotRange was not necessary, however, the plus and minus y axis lengths were not same on first plot.

Total time for seconds plot calculation was 3.3 thousands of a second on a mid 2010 Apple IMac.

Plotting is what computers should be used for.
