Which is the only mechanism that can introduce new alleles in a gene pool?
A. Genetic drift. B. random mating. C. mutation
ok so first do you know the different types of selection pressure that could have an effect on a gene pool?
Mechanisms that cause evolutionary change in gene pool contents & shift the relative frequency of alleles. 1- Mutation modifies allele frequencies by continually introducing new alleles to gene pools by sexual or asexual reproduction. 2- Gene flow is when an allele diffuses, and the relative frequency equalizes between two population’s gene pools by shared immigration. Alternately, gene flow is when the allele frequencies alter with parts of a population emigrating. Gene flow is literally the transfer of alleles from one population to another. 3- Genetic drift arises when a genetic change is passed forward through the generations but is not expressed as part of the phenotype; it does not come under selective pressure from the environment. If this silent allele is carried linked with an allele for another trait under strong selection the silent allele can establish in the gene pool. Alternately, when the expressed phenotype is neutral to selection it can establish because having one version, or another version of the trait, doesn’t affect the individual’s survival or reproductive success. 4- Natural selection or differential selection, by the community interactions or the habitat, produces changes in the relative frequencies of alleles in the population’s >>phenotypic gene pool<<. This includes disruptive, stabilizing or directional natural selective pressures. 5 - Sexual Selection - mates are selected on the basis of some quality of shape or color. Females selection is a genetically patterned behavior to prefer males with a specific phenotype.
oh yeah @blues i thought i put the link 0.o yeah i used it as a source of like definitions, since i thought it was good :)
the answer is C.
