The sales tax in Bill's state is 6%. Bill bought a Scion having a sales tax of $820. What was the cost of the car? Round to the nearest dollar. (Points : 1) $13,666 $13,667 $13,665 $13,668 None of these

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Where are you getting stuck with this problem? (what have you tried)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

820/600 this is my worst subject.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Ok, no worries. This is actually a really important problem to understand, cuz stuff like this pops up when you pay bills all the time. :)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

If we take 6 percent of the price of the car, we get 820 dollars. The simplest way to answer this (if you have a calculator) is to multiply each of the choices by zero point zero six ==> (car price) times (0.06) = _____ When that equals 820, you've found the price of your car. Do you have a calculator on hand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other then my phone. kinda

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Google.com can do this, actually. :) Just go to google and type (13,666)*(0.06) and a calculator will pop up in the search results.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got 819.96

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

That is correct. (13,666)*(0.06) = 819.96 That means "six percent of 13,666 equals 819.96". What about the others?

Mel Company has a net income, before taxes, of $95,000. The treasurer of the company estimates 45 percent of net income will have to be paid for federal and state taxes. The tax for both federal and state is so do i do 95,000* .45?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

You are correct. :) The answer you get is how much money Mel Company will have to pay in State & Federal taxes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=42,750

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you sorry my computer froze

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

No problemo. :) Glad it was helpful.

one more question i got a different answer Joe Company in 2006 had sales of $800,000. In 2007 sales were up 75 percent. Calculate the sales for 2007. I did 800,000*.75=600,000 is that correct
