x+1/3=2 show work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+(1/3)=2 or (x+1)/3=2 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+1)over 3 equals 2 x=5 but i need to show work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but it says to show work how would i show work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x+1 }{ 3 } = 2\] You must do the opposite to find x so multiply 3 \[\frac{ x+1 }{ 3 } *3 = 2 *3\] \[x + 1 = 6\] Then subtract 1 from each side \[x + 1-1 = 6-1\] \[x = 5\]
