in the equation 6x-12y=a and 3x-6y=b, a and b are constant. The two equations have many solutions . What is the realtionship between a and b?

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

two equations have many solutions if they are proportional to each other i.e 6/3 = -12/-6 = a/b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find its slopes. if slopes are same then line will be parallel.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay wait :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they have the same slope:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that mean they are equal?

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

yes it does mean they are equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes mean lines are parallel and equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a =b?

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

no !! a = 2b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yah for got! sorry :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
