HELP PLEASE There are 2 persons A and B..A is travelling at an average speed of 30km and B at 15km..on a race track..they travel 150km in all..and the race track is 20km in length..how many times do A and B meet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30x + 15y = 150. Solve for one variable in terms of the other. Create a table if you need to, or graph it.

OpenStudy (dls):

and how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I apologize. It should be 45x = 150, where x = number of hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This gives total distance. After finding x (3.33 hrs), we know that each person travelled for that time. Person A goes for (30)(3.33)/20 laps and Person B goes for (15)(3.33)/20 laps. The lowest of these two numbers is how many times they meet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 laps for A, 2 laps for B. They meet twice.

i see :O
