Mental Health Issue Addressed: Exposition (also called an Introduction or Prologue): Gives background information and prepares the audience for what is to come. The setting is established and main characters are introduced. Rising Action: Develops the characters by adding a problem or conflict. Turning Point (also called Climax): The time when the main character must make a decision as to how to handle the conflict. This decision can be a good (+) decision or a poor (-) decision. Whatever solution is used to "fix" the problem, will determine the overall outcome. Falling Action: Shows how the decision made affects all major and minor characters who are involved. If the decision was a good (+) one, the characters will likely enjoy some of the "fallout"; if the decision is a poor (-) one, the characters will likely suffer in some way. Denouement: Denouement is a French word for "untying" or what occurs by the end of the play when the whole plot has unraveled. This final outcome or solution focuses on the main character and what he/she learned (if anything) due to all that happened. A life theme (moral or lesson) is often present, which offers the audience an opportunity to reflect upon what happened and apply it beyond the drama and to real life.
