What is the best first step to solve the system using elimination? 6x - 5y = 4 and 9x + y = -17 multiply the first equation by 5 multiply the second equation by 5 solve for x in the first equation solve for y in the second equation

elimination doesnt "solve for" anything first
since the other 2 options are equally valid intermediary steps .... there is no real "best" to choose. There is one that can lead to a quicker solution as long as you dont mess up any of the other intermediary steps .....
If you multiply the second equation by 5 you can eliminate y..
