OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

a block of ice with an area A and a height h floats in water of density rho. what work should be performed to submerge the ice block completely into water if density of ice is rho1? any hints?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea.. find out how much of the ice is floating about the water.. you can easily derive that expression.. !! once you know that , its easy!

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

yeah. i got it already. :P thank you for replying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome :P

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

one thing to be careful about in this is the force is linearly varying with how much height is above the water. so we have to integrate it. so i was missing a '2' in the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooO... i missed that part.. yea.. its a variable force :D

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

hmm.
