Hope you help! I'll really appreciate it! A child went missing. The probability that he got lost in the east wing was 0.75, and the west 0.25. The security office sends one officer to the east and one to the west wing. If the probability that a security officer who is looking in the correct wing finds the child is 0.4, find the probability that the child is found.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The probability that the child is in either the east wing or in the wesr wing is 0.75 + 0.25 = 1. Therefore we are certain that the child is in one of the 2 wings. We are also certain that an officer will go into the correct wing. Therefore the probability that the child will be found, regardless of which wing the child is in, is 0.4.
