Would someone be willing to help me through this problem step by step? It would be greatly appriciated(: Determine wether the relation shown in the table is a direct variation, an inverse variation, or neither. If it is a direct or inverse variation, write an equation for the function. x- 10, 15, 20, 25 y- 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5

@ParthKohli @experimentX @phi @Callisto Anybody help?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

notice anything between them?? as x increases, y .. ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

decreases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what does that mean?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

what does imply ... what does direct or inverse mean??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inverse is opposite,? right?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

kind of .. yes.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

y = 5/x <--- this is how your data fits ... you should know just by observation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, I'm confused..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Agent_Sniffles @ash2326 Help?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

what's so confusing? inverse means opposite direct means direct ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well yeah so is it an inverse variation? And how do I write an equation for the function?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

i wrote that up. write it up as \[ y = ax^n\] and find the value of 'a' and 'n' ... which are 5 and -1 as above.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so it's y=5x^-1 ?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

yeah ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's an inverse variation and the equation is y=5x^-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@experimentX ?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

yes ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. thank you
