Why does Persephone have to return to King Hades for six months of the year?

it was a deal that was made between him and the god of life or somethign it was the god of lifes daughter persophone she ate somethign in haiti so she has to stay with him part of the year and with her mother the other part hope that helped thats also why theirs winter and fall because the uh god of life or what curses the crops and everyhting while her daughter is in the underworld
