Look at each term.  Is there a number or a symbol which is present in both, or can be divided out of both?

$$14a-7b$$No symbols in both terms, but aren't 14 and 7 both multiples of 7?  What do you get after dividing both terms by 7?  $7(2a-b)$

$$3y^2-4y$$Here we have no matching numbers in both terms, but we have $y$ in both.  What do you get after dividing both terms by $y$? $y(3y-4)$
