Let R(x)=-x^2+37x+38 denote the revenue in thousands of dollars generated from the production of x units. What is the break even point? I know that the break even point is when revenue is equal to the cost (R=C). The cost equation is C(x)=6x^2+14x+18. I am just bewildered as to how I would get x by itself.

Do you know how to solve a quadratic equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I do not. I forgot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so I looked up the quadratic equation N I believe I know how to solve it. Would I solve it to 7x^2-23x-20 a=7 B=-23 c=-20. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes you would

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. cool thanks. got it. Thanks so so much. I know you get two answers X=4 and x=-.71. I was wondering if you knew why x=4 is the only answer to this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because you can't produce a negative amount of units :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh...that makes sense. Thanks again :)
