when diagonalizing a matrix, we have so many eigenvalues and eigenvectors, can we conclude that there are many diagonalized matrix be made from the original one. can anybody explain me, please

the characteristic polynomial formed to find eigenvalues can be created followed the formula: x^2 - trace (A) + det A. is it always right?
