Assume a comet is traveling at a constant velocity in deep space. Why would it speed up as it approaches our solar system? a.) an object under no other outside influences naturally speeds up b.) a comet's speed is influenced by the length and make-up of the tail it exhibits c.) the solar system happens to be in the area of the comet's orbit where it normally speeds up d.) the gravitational force fields of the sun and planets in the solar system accelerates it Please explain when you answer.

Lets go over each option one by one.. lets start with a).. what you think of a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not really sure im confused .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats why m asking you.. what you think of option a??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think generally.. and answer me..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll try. I really think its b but, for some reason I want to go with D. Reason why I say B is because a comet is very face rather its in space headed here to earth because it ignoring air resistance im not sure but, do you understand what Im saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

****Fast not face

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we are not talking about how fast the comet is going .. we are talking about the fact that the comet goes fastER... thats the question right?? why does a comet PICK UP more speed than it actually has.. !!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now can you justify option B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because of its tail...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would it speed UP because of its tail?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk , im not sure... Physics is confusing. I'll try my best on guessing thank you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer was C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is D !!
