78 = -2(m + 3) + m ? can someone show my how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure 78 = -2(m + 3) + m first we need to get rid of the parentheses. to do this we multiply by the outside number. then we get... 78 = -2m + -6 + m now combine the like terms for m... 78= -m - 6 now we need to get m by itself so we add 6 to both sides... 84=-m we now have -m = 84 or m=-84 any questions/comments?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where does the -6 come from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when we take away the parentheses we multiply the outside number by each inside number... -2X3=-6

ok i think i understand a little better thanks :).
