why do so many people want American "stuff" and want to be like Americans yet, at the same time there seem to be a great deal of animosity toward the US throughout the world?

Many persons and nations see the benefits that we receive as United States citizens, they also believe that Americans live a rather luxurious life, where most of our material needs are met. They also see Americans as a country that indulges to an extreme, is disrespectful on many levels and is rather vain. Essentially, they like the country, hate the people.
