What graph represents the function f (x − 3), if f (x) = x2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What will be your end equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x)=(x-3)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so its a parabola. and how does subtracting 3 from x shift the parabola. up, down, left, or right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope. for a parabola there are the rules: (x-a)^2 shifts it right a units. (x+a)^2 shifts it left a units x^2 + a shifts it up x^2 - a shifts it down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will it open upwards or downwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just like a normal parabola. just shift to the right 3 units. so it will open upward

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem. my pleasure
