are corresponding angles always congruent?

OpenStudy (precal):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Directrix (directrix):

@abbyh46 Absolutely *not*, based on the posted question. Corresponding angle of what? Parallel lines cut by a transversal? Two lines cut by a transversal? Corresponding angles of congruent polygons? Corresponding angles of similar polygons? Tell us more about the details of the question?

OpenStudy (precal):

Corresponding angle of what? Parallel lines cut by a transversal? Two lines cut by a transversal? this is what I assumed........

Directrix (directrix):

@precal Corresponding angles formed by two parallel lines cut by a transversal are congruent. When a transversal cuts two lines which are not parallel, corresponding angles are still formed but they are not congruent. That is why the answer to the question as posted is "no." As happens many times here, the question was, I think, not posted in its entirety.
