Let the distance = d
Downstream speed = (18 + 2) mph
Upstream speed = (18 - 2) mph
\[time = \frac{distance}{speed}\]
\[\frac{d}{18+2}+\frac{d}{18-2}=3\] Now solve for d to find the distance.
