Does anyone understand Asymptotes? I am completely confused by them and did pretty rotten on my last quiz because of it. I just want to understand them. I have read and reread the chapters in my book and it feels like I am lost in translation somewhere. I'll give an example of a book problem below:

\[ \frac{ 3x ^{2}+1 }{ x ^{2}+x+9 }\]

here i am supposed to find the vertical and horizontal asymptote. and the domain. I already have the answers. I just don't understand how it is the answer. it doesn't make sense to me

So you are dealing with rational functions. My calc teacher posted some youtube videos of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2prApbCego http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ivC7tJl9kI his explanations should be clear to understand.

thank you. i'm going to watch him now and see if it explains things any better for me

thank you @Hero
