cosx=x^2. Solve for x.

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

does this involve complex numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you can use a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also |x| should be as small as possible

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Is this some numerical approximation method? I really don't know how to solve this by hand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you solve it with a calculator?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

I don't know how a regular calculator would help. Wolfram Alpha though can solve it :) http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=cos%28x%29%3Dx%5E2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps I am supposed to graph the two...

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

By hand that still won't help to get an exact answer. Is this part of a solution you found or is this the complete question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is the complete question. I think I am supposed to use a graphing calculator to graph and then find the intersection.

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Ok maybe. I don't know I never owned a graphing calculator :o
