Is the curriculum recommended by Plato–literature, history, maths andphilosophy adequate for today's students? I'll be having a debate as a classroom activity and I have no idea what points to use for... I'll be needing opinions agreeing and also disagreeing on this motion. I'd really appreciate the help!

Here's my stance on this issue, maybe it can help you to think about your debate more. Each of these areas is a critical part of functioning in today's global economy. Literature is necessary to expand the mind as well as to understand history and other topics. I think it is essential to the learning process (along with visual learning techniques). History is one of the most important topics in today's curriculum because it can teach us what not to do, as well as what works in given situations. Without it, people would be unable to win wars, or understand art and architecture from the past centuries. Maths are key to today's infrastructure and technology themed careers. Each and every person uses technology to some degree and in order to understand the logic behind such technology, mathematics is critical. Philosophy is not necessarily required in my view of education nowadays. Although the classes my help to expand the mind and help to develop skills in debate and in heart, how to take a stance, I don't feel like people necessarily have to have this to function. People make decisions all the time. The argument here with this subject is whether teaching children belief systems in school will help them to make better decisions. This will need to be explored in your debate. Hope this helps. Another strategy to get you thinking is to try to be defensive about the topics, along with how you might attack them. Do these separately, and your debate will come out just fine. :)
