A blind man entered a house. He heard people talking inside the house then he said to them "it seems like there is 100 of you in this hows". One guy responded "we are not 100, we need half of us plus you so that we can be 100". How many people are in the house?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi do u still need some help on this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/2+1 = 100 // solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tomo are u gomnna help with this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when solving for x i get 198, so do you mean that there are 198 people in the house?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it seems like the number of people in the house won't go beyond 100, so i don't think 198 will satisfy the given problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is what the man says. you might be confused because he says "we are not 100". he is not saying we are less than 100. it would be impossible for their numbers to be less than 100 and for this to be true. observe as follows: if their population was 90. 90/2 + 1 = 46. not 100.
