Well (-6)^2 is just (-6)*(-6)=36

you can use google as a calculator http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=%28-6%29^2&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGLL_enUS420US420&ie=UTF-8 but it also helps to know how to do this on paper (-6)^2 = (-6)*(-6) = 36
