Is there a danger here for students unaware of the difference between opinion and fact?
A fact is a statement based on proof. An opinion is a statement based on belief.
No danger. As long as you use your brain.
YouTube or Google it.
Fact: Water exists. Opinion: Facebook sucks.

explain how we should regard texts, if the authors include their opinion
A fact is something that no one can argue with you about. An opinion is something other people might debate with you about.
explain how we should regard texts, if the authors include their opinion
Ask yourself two questions: 1. Can this statement be proven? If so, it's probably a fact. 2. Is this statement disputable? If so, it's probably an opinion.
If an author includes their opinion, then it is obviously an opinion, right? The thing is, you have to be able to tell the difference between opinion and fact.
Re-read your lesson and try to understand the difference between the two.
I don't know if this will help or not: http://learninglab.org/life_skills/fact_or_opinion/
