How is the energy stored in a capacitor affected, if the distance between the plates is halved? It seems to me it should double, but apparently it halves. Can someone explain why and how that world?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The ebergy stored in a capacitor is E=(CV^2)/2. and \[C=\epsilon _{0}\epsilon _{r}A/d\] If distance d decrease then the value of C increase so that the amount of energy can be stored in capacitor increases.

yea it doubles for sure.. !
