OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many tangent lines to the curve y = x/(x + 1) pass through the point (1, 2)?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Looks like 2 to me. Can you prove it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you familiar with derivatives ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, find dy/dx and figure out the tangent at 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1,2) i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if so, take the der and use value of x =1 to find eqn of tangent line

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the point (1, 2) isn't on the curve as its asymptotic at x = -1 and y = 1

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so I'd say there is 2 tangents with side of te vertical asymptote x = -1

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Defintely 2. Now find them!

OpenStudy (sirm3d):

i found two, just as @tkhunny is definitely sure.

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

how many tangents pass through (1,2) is equivalent to asking how many tangents can be drawn to the curve from (1,2) If that helps your case?
