Use basic identities to simplify the expression.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

what is secant?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reverse of cos

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

and what is tangent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210 u there?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

secant is the reverse of cosine

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

and what is tangent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the reverse of cot i guess

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yes, but it equals something too.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

*else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

tan = sin/cos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so how can this be used to solve this?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well first you have to change everything to sines and cosines so the new equation is: (sin/cos)/(1/cos) Do you know how to switch from division to multiplication?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

so it'll be \[(\sin x/ \cos x) \times (\cos x/1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i should multiply that to get my answer?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yea, so the cosx's will cancel each other out leaving sinx/1 which is just sinx
