8-3x=-16 help plzz

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

8-3x=-16 8-3x - 8=-16 - 8 ... Subtract 8 from both sides. -3x = -24 ... subtract what's next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

***Hint: isolate the x!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt 16- -8 = -8 ??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-16 - 8 = -24

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can think of it like this you're in debt $16 then you spend $8 more so you'll be in debt a total of 16+8 = 24 dollars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also think of it this way when you have two negatives... two negatives make a positive! so u end up with plus +(number.. given...)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okki thx

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur welkers :) hope u understand everything better now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got my anser -4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-3x = -24 this means "-3 times some number = -24"

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to isolate x, you undo that multiplication -3x = -24 -3x/(-3) = -24/(-3) x = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ya it equals 8 lml thx again

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, x = 8

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
