you are correct

$5 per person, otherwise 5p

and 9 dollar flat fee in food

thus

f(p) = 5p + 9

oh. i got it wrong then. i got 5p + 9 p. thanks for triple checking guys. i wish i could give two medals- one for each of you, but even though @helpsos replied first, @funinabox explained so i'll give him the medal instead. i feel bad so i'll just fan you :) thanks guys
