It can lead to cancer. When the human papilloma virus (HPV) invades our cells, our immune system tries to get the cells to commit suicide, so that the virus can't spread. But the virus stops the immune system from doing this. And when this happens, the cell can become mutated, and start dividing uncontrollably. This is, of course, cancer.
