The absolute value of any number is just the distance that number is from 0 ex: |-7| = 7 because the number -7 is seven units away from 0 on the number line
so what is |-4| ?
=4
|-4| = 4 so -|-4| = -4
oh okay so -|-4| = -4?

just gotta keep that negative outside the absolute value in mind
normally |-4| = 4, which is positive so |-4| is positive, but negating that to get -|-4| makes the result negative
