Find the slope between points (-3, 5) and (-3, 8). A. -8/5 B. 8/5 C. 0 D. unidentified slope

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: the x coordinates are the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what does that tell you about the line that goes through the two points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats their unidentified

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but why is it undefined

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the points (-3, 5) and (-3, 8) lie on a vertical line this vertical line cuts through x = -3 on the x axis

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

all vertical lines have an undefined slope this is because the "run" is 0 slope = rise/run slope = rise/0 ... can't do it, you can't divide by zero slope = undefined

OpenStudy (abb0t):

That explanation deserves a medal.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

thanks
