Consider the sequence 16, –8, 4, –2, 1, ... a.Describe the pattern formed in the sequence. b.Find the next three terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi ok so u need help finding what the pattern is right.>:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it is going down so which means it is i beileve subtracting hree give me one moment >:) k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that each number is multiplied by -0.5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so first thig you want to do is find out what the pattern is so it is subractig and plus ok so its going 16-8=8, 8-4=4, then 2-1=1 so its really going from 16,8,4,2, then let me give u the nesxt art of the problem>:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so to find the next three terms we know that they will be all three negatives so give me a moment to map this part out k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

becasue 1 then its 0 so what happens thye are neg's so just sthink abiout that part and let me get the rest going here thse kind of problems must need a workout and using your thinking time yes i know its hard sometimes casu im doing the same thing heree in school now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you figure out the patterns afterward?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are they all 0's?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats what im trying to figure out also lol here becasue when it turns from the 1 its negative's so whihv means you haev to go abck from the numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

becasue then that wouldn't be a pattenr here lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol true:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find the next three terms you would carry on with the pattern of the sequence that you found in the first part. So each term is being multiplied by -0.5, so to find the next term you would multiply 1 by -0.5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did that and it kept saying "-0.5"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes there you go thankyou @jamie133

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes ok so are you mutiplying the numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes ok so what would be your next answer after 0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, so the next term would be -0.5. then do (-0.5)*(-0.5) to get the next term, and so on (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh , i understand ! thank you =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes jsut mutiply the next like she said -0.5 times that number again to find the next term.thenn....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 0.25 and then -0.125 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome is thereanythig else or another problem here needs to be solved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds right to me! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok wait let me check that for you k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you both soo much!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are welcome girly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there anything else here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

needs to be solved before i go:>)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's all in this course:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okkkk well hannaa gladi was able ot help good luck byeee jsut send me a mesage if more help is needed>:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i sure will ! :) thanks a bunch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sharp stuff byeezz
