Solve each system of equations with substitution. 5a-v=-23 -a+v=3

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

To do the substitution, take one of the equations and solve it for one of the variables. I would suggest the second equation might be the easier one here. Having gotten an equation giving v in terms of a, or a in terms of v, now rewrite the first equation, substituting the right hand side of the equation you got wherever you see the variable you are substituting. Solve the resulting equation to get one of your answers. Then put the answer in the substitution formula to get the other one. Final step, very important: plug both of your answers into both formulas and make sure they make true numeric sentences.

v=3+a. just plug that into v for the first equation
