(sqrt(x)+5)^2=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ (a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2 \]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Multiply it out, just as you would (x+a)^2 (x+a)(x+a) = x^2 + ax + ax + a^2 = x^2 + 2ax + a^2 Then simplify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but its sqrtroot... i know the formula..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

So substitute sqrt(x) wherever you see a, and 5 wherever you see b. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know how to caluclate sqrt*sqrt

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[\sqrt{x}*\sqrt{x} = x\]by definition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, cool thank you very much! :)
