~WILL GIVE MEDAL~ Select all choices that apply. Why did people want to restrict immigration to the United States? A. Many people thought the country was full and there wasn't any room for newcomers to settle. B. Many people were prejudiced against newcomers who were different. C. Many people were unwilling to pay taxes to meet the demands created by immigrants. D. Many people were afraid of losing jobs to the newcomers, who were willing to work for lower wages. @Emah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it would be D. Considering the new immigrants came seeking a better life, ie. jobs, houses... Therefore they would be willing to take low-paying jobs that other Americans already held

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. is incorrect, as there are hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of land that has yet to be settled. B. The United States of America is considered the melting pot of culture, or something like that, no? C. I agree with this one. We're paying so many taxes just to give them free money, as they sit around without jobs. D. True, true. A lot of immigrants are day workers, so that would make sense. This is a personal opinion question, if I do say so myself.
