Given a 30-60-90 triangle, find the length of the longer side if the hypotenuse is 12cm. (Use sq rt as the square root symbol)

OpenStudy (zehanz):

In any 30-60-90 triangle, the sides have a ratio of shorter : longer : hypothenuse = a : a*sqrt(3) : 2a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not what im looking for i need the length of the longer side

OpenStudy (zehanz):

If you look at what I wrote, you'll know the lenght of the longer side at once. Further hint: In your triangle, 2a = 12. Calculate a from this and then the longer side is a* sqrt(3) !
