ok... in a non right angle triangle you can use the law of cosines

using the diagram above the law of cosines says 

$$a^2 = b^2 + c^2 - 2\times a \times b \times \cos(A)$$

b = 11 c = 8 and C = 32.2

so 

$$a^2 = 11^2 + 8^2 - 2 \times 11 \times 8 \times \cos(32.2)$$

you can type the right hand side into the calculator... when you have an answer take the square root to find a. 

I think its less that 8 just looking at the diagram
