Let f(x)=3x–42 and g(x) =5x. Part 1 What is (f ◦ g)(x) ? Part 2 Use complete sentences to describe the method you used to solve this problem.

Parth (parthkohli):

The question asks for \((f (g(x))\).

Parth (parthkohli):

You know that \(g(x) = 5x\). What is \(f(5x)\) then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. So it's F(x)=15x-42...But what method is it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ParthKohli ?? is that right and is it equal to F(x) or y?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes!

Parth (parthkohli):

Sorry, I was late. You don't have any \(y\) in the equation, do you?

Parth (parthkohli):

Well, the method you understood.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes but what's the name? Substitution? Thank you :)

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, substitution maybe. I haven't heard of different methods: this one is the only one I know of.
